Ethiopia: National Taskforce Emphasizes Priorities for Repatriation and Rehabilitation

At its regular meeting on Monday (November 18), the National Taskforce underlined the need to halt illicit human trafficking and emphasized the need for coordinated and increased efforts to repatriate and rehabilitate citizens from Saudi Arabia and to eradicate the root cause of illegal trafficking.

It also stressed the need to enhance and strengthen job creation programs at both Federal and Regional levels in order to provide alternative options for young people. The Task Force made it clear that repatriating Ethiopians from Saudi Arabia should be given priority at this time, and also that the returnees should be rehabilitated within the shortest time possible. The Chair of the National Taskforce, Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, urged officials at all levels to rehabilitate the repatriates and mobilize the entire people against human trafficking as a matter of urgency.
