NEW DELHI: The
Supreme Court on Thursday allowed former J&K CM
Mehbooba Mufti's daughter, Iltija, to travel from Chennai to Srinagar to meet her mother, kept under
house arrest since August 5 and to move around in Srinagar subject to requisite permission from authorities.
A bench of CJI
Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer also ordered immediate shifting of former MLA Yusuf Tarigami from Srinagar to Delhi for treatment.
The SC took the decision after taking cognisance of health concerns raised by CPM chief
Sitaram Yechury.
"Iltija wants access to her mother," said advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan, giving an impression that Iltija had been prevented from meeting her mother. However, solicitor general Tushar Mehta said that the petition had been filed to cater to elements outside who were hostile to India and stressed that Iltiza had so far not sought permission to visit her mother.
The bench asked Iltija whether she was free to travel to Srinagar. When her counsel answered in the affirmative, the bench asked whether there was any difficulty in her entering her own house. Ramakrishnan again said there were none.
"We are of the view that the state government has not and does not intend to prevent the petitioner from coming back to Srinagar from Chennai," the bench said.
